Casino-resort weekends across Canada

Casino resort getaways across Canada

Planning a night, or three, at a casino resort? We rate Canada's casino hotels the way a getaway actually unfolds — the room you sleep in, the floor you play on, where you eat, what's on stage, the pool or spa for the morning after, and how painless the trip there is. Every figure is taken from the hotel itself or from a source we name, together with the date we last checked it.

Our favourite getaway: Hilton Lac-Leamy & Casino du Lac-Leamy

Rated just behind Fallsview, but the one we would book for a slow weekend: a five-star Hilton in Gatineau with indoor and outdoor pools heated all year, Amerispa's 17 treatment rooms and an 1,100-seat theatre, a short ten-minute drive from the centre of Ottawa.

Fallsview, Niagara Falls

Wake up to the roar of Horseshoe Falls

This is the weekend most Canadians imagine when they hear “casino hotel”: mist rising past the window, dinner a lift ride away and a headline act on the OLG Stage. Behind the view sit 372 rooms, a casino floor of some 200,000 sq ft with 3,200-plus slots and 110 tables, two theatres and more than twenty places to eat.

Hilton Lac-Leamy, Gatineau

Steam rising off a heated pool in the middle of winter

Picture an outdoor pool steaming in January, a treatment booked at Amerispa, then dinner above the lake: that's the Lac-Leamy weekend. A five-star Hilton joined at the hip to Loto-Québec's Gatineau casino, with lakes either side, ten minutes' drive from Parliament, it adds a theatre seating 1,100 and over 1,400 slots — no Canadian resort pairs spa and casino as completely.

Caesars, Windsor

A riverside weekend with Detroit glittering opposite

Draw back the curtains at Caesars Windsor and Detroit's skyline is right there across the water. With 758 rooms in two towers it's the largest hotel we profile, in the 5,000-seat Colosseum even the back row is within 225 feet of the stage, and the casino counts upwards of two thousand slots and eighty-plus tables — all in downtown Windsor rather than out by an off-ramp.

No. 4 · ★ 4.33

River Rock, Richmond

Off the plane and onto the train — check-in in under half an hour

Here's a getaway that starts at the airport gate: ride the Canada Line about seven minutes from YVR to Bridgeport and you're at the door (downtown Vancouver is roughly eighteen minutes the other way). Waiting inside: 396 rooms, some remarkable suites, Canada's first Gordon Ramsay Steak and a pool with a slide, with a marina on the river outside.

How the rating works, briefly

Five parts of a weekend, each marked out of 10: the room (30%), things to do — shows plus pool and spa — (25%), dining (20%), getting there (15%) and the casino (10%). The weighted total is shown out of 5, to two decimals. How getaways are rated.

Before you plan

Which Canadian casino resort makes the best getaway?

On our scoring, the winner is Niagara Falls' Fallsview Casino Resort: 372 rooms designed for the view, a 5,000-seat OLG Stage, 110 tables and 3,200-plus slots, and more than 20 restaurants.

Which Canadian casino hotel opened most recently?

Ottawa's Hard Rock: its 150 rooms opened on 3 July 2025. The title previously belonged to Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto, whose hotel welcomed its first guests on August 1, 2023.

How old do you need to be to enter a Canadian casino?

Eighteen in Alberta, Manitoba and Québec; nineteen everywhere else we cover, including Ontario, British Columbia and New Brunswick.

Can I bring children to a casino hotel?

Mostly, yes. Age rules govern the gaming floor and a few bars and venues — not your room. Hard Rock Ottawa is the big exception: there, the 19+ rule starts at the front door.
