A getaway at Grey Eagle Resort & Casino
Revised — hotel facts re-read
On Tsuut'ina Nation land at Calgary's south-west edge, and owned and run by the Nation, Grey Eagle has had a hotel — 178 rooms — since 2014. Ask for a west-facing room and the Rockies fill the horizon; get tickets for a show in the Event Centre (2,500 seats) and a table at Little Chief. One caveat: the pool is closed during a renovation that runs into 2027.

You'll love it if…A concert night in Calgary, or a comfortable base for days out in Kananaskis and Banff.
Look elsewhere if…You can't do without a pool — it's closed while renovations go on.
The essentials
The short version
No other casino hotel we review puts you this close to both a downtown and the mountains: central Calgary is minutes away, Kananaskis Country about 30 minutes. The Tsuut'ina Nation owns Grey Eagle and operates it; gaming began in 2007, and the hotel (six storeys, 178 rooms) had its grand opening on 2 May 2014.
Which room to book
Request the west side: on clear days, says the resort, the Rockies run along the skyline; other rooms face the city. Choose from a Presidential Suite, a King Suite, a Premier King, a Standard King, or the family favourite, the Standard Two Queen — all, it says, recently renovated.
At the tables
The 84,000 sq ft floor has 975-plus slots (running 24 hours) and 32 tables (10 am–3 am), with high-limit rooms for baccarat, blackjack and more. Minimum age: 18. The casino says the work runs in stages across 2026 and 2027. Points go on Winner's Edge, the loyalty card used across Alberta.
Showtime
In 2024 the Event Centre — 2,500 seats, open to all ages — switched to L-Acoustics sound and won Venue/Presenter of the Year at the 2024 YYC Music Awards. Heading to a show? look at the Concert Night Getaway: an overnight room plus a pair of tickets, priced from $329 to $369.
Eating in
Dinner to remember: Little Chief, a modern kitchen rooted in Indigenous tradition, written up by the Calgary Herald and by Avenue Magazine. The 18+ Buffet keeps its nightly features going to the end of 2026 (December 31), then shuts in January 2027 while it is renovated. Elsewhere you can eat at Blaze Bar & Grill, drink at the Eagle Bar beside the slots, catch free weekend acts at the Stage Bar, or grab bannock and chili, Indian tacos or Saskatoon berry dumplings from the Eagle Street Eats truck.
Downtime
No swimming on site for now — the renovation has closed the pool. Hotel guests can swim for free at two city-run pools instead, Glenmore and Killarney. Still open here: the 24-hour gym, the sauna and the outdoor hot tub.
Getting in, and getting out
To learn about the Nation itself, book a Grey Eagle Cultural Tour — options include a Buffalo Paddock Tour and a visit to the Tsuut'ina Museum. From YYC allow thirty to forty-five minutes by car; Banff is roughly an hour off. Parking is free, and pet owners are put on a floor set aside for them.
The getaway verdict
For a Calgary or Rockies getaway, this is the casino hotel to book, and it's a strong concert base too. Until the builders leave, bring a swimsuit for the outdoor hot tub rather than the pool.
