Family getaways at Canadian casino resorts

Revised — hotel facts re-read

A family getaway at a casino hotel works better than you'd think: the age rule covers the gaming floor and certain bars, not the building as a whole. The difference lies in what there is for children to enjoy — and, at one resort, whether they get through the door. Our picks, best first:

  1. River Cree, Enoch

No casino resort in Canada does more for kids. Since July 29, 2024, children with an adult may go anywhere that isn't gaming; the two NHL-size rinks offer public skating, there's a whirlpool beside the pool, a Luxury Family Suite can be reserved, and a free bus reaches West Edmonton Mall in five minutes.

  2. Fallsview, Niagara Falls

The casino is the only 19+ zone; children are welcome everywhere else. Children under twelve swim with a parent beside them; for daytime outings, Bird Kingdom, Clifton Hill and the Butterfly Conservatory are close. A room facing the falls is half the fun.

  3. Great Canadian, Toronto

    ★ 4.28 of 5 · Find on map ↗

Kids can share a room booked by a guest 19 or over. Up to six can share the 2-Bedroom Suite, with its own fridge and microwave; the pool comes with a hot tub; and most days you can watch races at Woodbine next door for free.

  4. River Rock, Richmond

Water slide in the pool, several restaurants labelled all-ages, and the Canada Line for days out in Vancouver. Whoever checks in has to be 19 or older.

  5. Casino New Brunswick, Moncton

    ★ 3.61 of 5 · Find on map ↗

Children can stay with an adult and must be supervised at the pool if under 12. Hopewell Rocks, Magnetic Hill and its zoo make Moncton a handy family stopover on a road trip.

  6. Grey Eagle, Calgary

    ★ 3.88 of 5 · Find on map ↗

Standard Two Queen rooms are the ones the hotel suggests to families, Event Centre shows admit all ages, and Heritage Park and the Calgary Zoo aren't far. While the hotel pool is shut for works, guests are given passes for the city's pools.

Leave the kids at home for these

Nobody under 19 gets into any part of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa, hotel and restaurants included. Caesars Windsor is a closer call: it promotes the Augustus Tower to families and admits all ages to Colosseum shows, but children can't use the pool.
