Alberta casino hotels, reviewed
Updated · facts checked
Alberta's two big casino resorts have a lot in common: each is owned by a First Nation, and each sits just outside one of the province's two largest cities — River Cree on Enoch Cree Nation land by Edmonton, Grey Eagle on Tsuut'ina Nation land by Calgary. AGLC regulates gaming here, and you can play from 18.

River Cree Resort & Casino
Hockey, a Ramsay dinner and a big casino in one stop: River Cree, just west of Edmonton on Enoch Cree Nation land, has a 249-room hotel, twin NHL-size rinks, Canada's first Hell's Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay and one of Alberta's largest gaming floors, plus a free West Edmonton Mall shuttle. A new 18-storey tower is under construction.
Grey Eagle Resort & Casino
Owned and run by the Tsuut'ina Nation on Calgary's south-west edge, Grey Eagle added its 178-room hotel in 2014. Book a west-facing room for the Rockies, a show at the 2,500-seat Event Centre and dinner at Little Chief, one of the better casino restaurants in the West — just note the pool is shut through a renovation running into 2027.
