Ideal for: A Fraser Valley night of steak followed by a few hours on the casino floor.
Think twice if: You need a pool or a theatre — there isn't either.

The short version

Cascades has been part of Langley City since May 2005, when Gateway Casinos opened it. The hotel half of the pairing is the Coast Langley City Hotel & Convention Centre next door: 77 rooms, refreshed during renovation work in 2018. Choose a Coast King or Coast Two Queens, a Queen in the corner with a sofa bed, or an accessible Queen with roll-in shower; for more space there's an Executive Suite with its own balcony and a Hospitality Suite fitted with a wet bar.

At the tables

Inside the 80,000 sq ft casino: 1,000-plus slots, roulette, blackjack, bingo and a poker room, all open 24 hours. Shows are gone — the 420-seat Summit Theatre shut in 2018 and its space went to the bingo hall.

Eating in

Dinner here usually means ATLAS steak + fish, which Gateway runs as its signature restaurant brand. For music, Match Eatery & Public House books DJs and live bands; in the mornings, hotel guests eat in The Breakfast Room. Every Sunday from 11 am the convention ballroom hosts a brunch buffet, and Glacier Bar pours from late morning (11 am) until 2 am.

Worth knowing

Don't pack a swimsuit — the hotel states clearly that it has no pool, though the gym is open around the clock. Rooms are ready at 3 pm and due back at 12 noon, and parking costs nothing. With approval in advance, one pet costs $25 a night and two cost $40. Driving, you'll reach Abbotsford airport in roughly 30 minutes and YVR in about an hour; nearby sights include the Greater Vancouver Zoo and Fort Langley.

The getaway verdict

A good local casino with a respectable small hotel attached. It isn't trying to be a resort like the ones in our top ten, and that's fine.

Good to know before you book

Can I swim at Cascades Langley?

No — the Coast hotel says it has no swimming pool.

Is there a show theatre at Cascades Langley?

Not any more. The Summit Theatre closed in 2018, and the space became a bingo hall.
